  The article examines the teachings of saints Augustine and John Chrysostom on fatherhood. In connection with this topic, Augustine emphasises the importance of the spiritual development of children, with particular focus on the role of father as a spiritual guide. He appreciated the paternal dedication to education, despite differences in religious beliefs, and had deep feelings for his son Adeodatus. According to Augustine, the father should lead the children to God, combining love and testimony with appropriate severity. Chrysostom, on the other hand, emphasised the role of the father in family as a spiritual teacher, caring for the development of Christian virtues and avoiding temptations. The father should grow in wisdom and lead an exemplary life, thus preparing children for future marriage and Christian life.;
  Artykuł analizuje nauki św. Augustyna i św. Jana Chryzostoma na temat ojcostwa. Augustyn w związku z tym tematem podkreśla znaczenie duchowego rozwoju dzieci, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli ojca jako przewodnika duchowego. Doceniał poświęcenie ojca w kwestii edukacji, mimo różnic w przekonaniach religijnych oraz miał głębokie uczucia wobec swojego syna Adeodata. Według Augustyna, ojciec powinien prowadzić dzieci ku Bogu, łącząc miłość i świadectwo z odpowiednią surowością. Z kolei Chryzostom kładł nacisk na rolę ojca w rodzinie jako nauczyciela duchowego, dbającego o rozwój cnót chrześcijańskich i unikanie pokus. Ojciec powinien dbać o mądrość i przykładne życie, przygotowując dzieci do przyszłego małżeństwa i życia chrześcijańskiego.
