Autorskie doświadczenie procesu twórczego" eksponuję praktykę pisania i strategię pisarską Kantora – artysty teatru, który w swoich tekstach – zarówno teoretycznych, jak i stricte artystycznych/literackich – przekraczał granice klasycznie rozumianej gatunkowości, zmierzając w stronę hybrydyzacji tekstu oraz negocjowanych i wzajemnie przenikających się przestrzeni artystycznych na gruncie współczesnej sztuki i humanistyki. Polisemantyczna i polifoniczna twórczość Kantora pozostaje wciąż żywa i aktualna. Inspiruje szerokie grono akademików, krytyków, ludzi teatru, artystów, którzy podejmują dialog z dziełem krakowskiego artysty. Wieloperspektywiczny ogląd pojętego holistycznie zjawiska artystycznego, jakim jest KANTOR, umacnia i „ukorzenia” samo dzieło w kulturowym odbiorze. Rytm lektury pracy doktorskiej wyznaczają trzy zasygnalizowane w tytule problemy badawcze: „koncepcja pisma/pisarstwa”, „funkcja podmiotu” oraz „doświadczenie procesu twórczego”. Te trzy elementy składają się na prezentację twórczego podmiotu „w procesie” i w ruchu samostwarzania siebie i kreacji przestrzeni artystycznej, jaką jest tekst kultury. Wyjątkowość Kantorowskiego podmiotu polega na tym, że manifestuje się on w teatrze, malarstwie i w piśmie. To podmiot spaja rytmizuje i wyznacza dynamikę procesu twórczego, który w Kantorowskiej optyce nie tylko pretenduje do rangi dzieła sztuki, ale nim jest. Praca doktorska składa się z pięciu części oraz uwertury, pełniącej funkcję wstępu. Dla równowagi – pracę „domyka” koda, której celem nie jest zamknięcie tekstu, lecz podsumowanie interesujących mnie zagadnień Kantorowskiej sztuki oraz wyznaczenie jeszcze innych możliwości dialogu z dziełem krakowskiego artysty. Każda z pięciu części zbudowana jest z rozdziałów-leksji (w ujęciu Rolanda Barthes’a), które stanowią tematyczne rozwinięcie sygnalizowanych zagadnień dotyczących podmiotowości, procesu twórczego i dyskursu artysty.;
  Tadeusz Kantor was one of the greatest polish artists of 20th century. He is well known as a stage director, painter, creator of happenings and performances, art theoretician, ―Great Avant-gardist‖ or ―Eternal Member of the Avant-garde‖. Kantor was born in 1915 in Wielopole Skrzyńskie and died in Cracow in 1990. Kantor‘s great theatrical and painting activity began before World War II. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, under Karol Frycz, an outstanding set designer in the inter-war period. Kantor was inspired by Dadaism, Constructivism and Surrealism, but he had never forgotten about tradition, e.g. Romanticism, Symbolism. During World War II, in Cracow, Tadeusz Kantor co-founded the Clandestine Independent Theatre. At the same time, he became a leader of a group of the young artists. Because of Nazi occupation it was a truly harsh time for art. But still artists organised meetings, during which they discussed cultural news, popular ideas, avant-garde art trends etc. Hectic rehearsals took place in private apartments (Balladyna 1943, The Return of Odysseus 1944). In 1955 Kantor founded Theatre Cricot 2. Then he started his great artistic dialogue with Witkacy‘s and his theory of Pure Form. Kantor‘s theatrical, painting activity and his creative potential culminated after 1975 in the harrowing spectacles of cycle named the Theatre of Death (starting with The Dead Class 1975, then Wielopole, Wielopole 1980, Let the Artists Die 1985, I Shall Never Return 1988 to Today Is My Birthday 1990). After the realization of the cricotage Machine of Love and Death (1987) Theatre of Death became Theatre of Love and Death. Kantor‘s late creations are kind of a (multiplied) self-portrait. These productions, artworks (writings as well as spectacles) are manifestations of a great artistic individual – unique entity, peculiar subjectivity which could be defined as ―being singular plural‖. Since 1980 (Wielopole, Wielopole) Kantor‘s stage had been radically cleansed out of the aesthetic influences of other artists and became his own, intimate, private ―battle‖ for salvation of soi (self, selbst, siebie) and rescue for the fullness of presence. The PhD dissertation presents Tadeusz Kantor as a writer, poet and a great figure of homo creator: homo scribens and homo legens. It focuses on Kantor as the author of many texts: critical texts, manifestos, essays and – what is the most important – artistic writings, literature: prose and poetry. These texts are heterogeneous and diverse. Hence their genealogy is not obvious. One of the main aims of this dissertation is to find a key to describe and analyze Kantor‘s artistic and literary idiom; author‘s ―plays‖ with ambiguous matter and ―corporeal‖ word. It discusses peculiarity of Kantor‘s practice and strategy of writing (e.g. ―piece of paper‖ defined as the ―scene‖ and the ―picture‖). Text as a discourse was an important artistic matter for Kantor. He felt obliged to find an adequate language and crucial words to explain, clarify and express his private experiences as well as his artistic ideas. Kantor‘s texts are a great example of the artist‘s critical thinking. It is said that without Kantor his theatre does not exist anymore. So here are his texts, plenty of unique, unusual thoughts concerning culture, especially avant-garde and contemporary art, philosophy, anthropology, existence (woven from both: life and death), human and artist‘s condition etc. The dissertation discusses Kantor‘s writing practice of crossing borders between styles and genres, which in effect produced thoroughly hybrid literary or theoretical texts. Kantor‘s manuscripts give evidence of a dynamically changing and evolving nature of the text production. The theories of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari are used by the author of the dissertation to prove that the postmodern philosophy and analysis do not capture the specific idiom of Kantor‘s writing. The author shows Kantor‘s specific way of forging a very personal idiom of writing and of literary expression. Moreover, the PhD dissertation explores a great literary theme of the ―imperative to write‖ as an existential problem. Investigation of the writings, forms of multiplied subjectivity (particular proliferation of self) and Kantor‘s peculiar creative process is also based on the documents acquired thanks to engagement of Cricoteka – the Centre for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor in Cracow which was founded by the artist in 1980 (originally named the Centre of the Cricot 2 Theatre).
