  The article proposes the inclusion of surface temperature (LST) distribution, derived from Landsat 8/9 satellite images, in assessing thermal conditions in urban areas. This approach is intended to assist in the development of urban climate adaptation plans. The city of Chojnice, located in northern Poland with a population of nearly 39,000 residents, has been selected as the study area to test this procedure. The proposed framework offers a more detailed diagnosis of the city’s exposure, sensitivity, and vulnerability to high LSTs, particularly during late spring and summer when there is an increased risk of decreased thermal comfort for residents. The designed procedure is spatially explicit, enabling the identification of areas within the urban landscape that are most and least exposed to high temperatures. This capability allows adaptation measures to be tailored to specific locations effectively. Additionally, by utilising open data sources and allowing for adjustments to the assessment grid size, the proposed methodology can be reproduced in other cities. In Chojnice, over 60% of the city’s area has a low vulnerability to heat. This is primarily found in areas with significant forest coverage, such as the northern green wedge in the Struga Jarcewska valley, near water bodies, allotment gardens, and agricultural lands. Nearly 30% of the city is classified as having high vulnerability, mainly encompassing the densely developed areas with a high density of buildings and limited green spaces. The remaining 10% of the city area, which features a diverse and mosaic land cover, falls into the medium vulnerability to heat impact category.;
  Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie propozycji uwzględnienia rozkładu temperatury powierzchniowej (LST), obliczonej na podstawie zdjęć satelitarnych Landsat, do diagnozy warunków termalnych w mieście na potrzeby przygotowania miejskich planów adaptacji. Postępowanie badawcze zostało przeprowadzone na przykładzie miasta Chojnic. Proponowana procedura ma umożliwić uszczegółowienie diagnozy w zakresie ekspozycji, wrażliwości i podatności miasta na oddziaływanie wysokich temperatur w okresie późnej wiosny i lata, kiedy istnieje wysokie ryzyko pogorszenia komfortu termicznego mieszkańców. W toku badań ustalono, że we wskazanym okresie ponad 60% powierzchni miasta może odznaczać się niską podatnością na wysokie temperatury otoczenia. Najniższa podatność dotyczyła zwłaszcza terenów leśnych (północny klin zieleni w dolinie Strugi Jarcewskiej), zbiorników wodnych i ich sąsiedztwa, ogródków działkowych oraz gruntów rolnych. Prawie 30% powierzchni Chojnic charakteryzowało się wysoką podatnością. Były to głównie gęsto zabudowane obszary o dużej zwartości zabudowy i ograniczonym udziale terenów biologicznie czynnych. Pozostałe 10% powierzchni miasta, cechujące się mozaikowym pokryciem terenu, zaklasyfikowano do kategorii średniej podatności na oddziaływanie wysokiej temperatury powierzchniowej. Przedstawione w artykule postępowanie oparte na rozkładzie LST ma wyraźne odniesienie przestrzenne. Pozwala zidentyfikować w tkance miejskiej najbardziej i najmniej eksponowane i wrażliwe miejsca, dzięki czemu działania adaptacyjne mogą być dostosowane do konkretnych lokalizacji. Dzięki wykorzystaniu otwartych źródeł danych i elastyczności w doborze podstawowych pól oceny zaproponowana metodyka może być replikowana w innych miastach.
