  Tacitus’s description of the events of the Bosporan war 45–49 AD is the only written testimony that suggests how the Bosporan army acted on the march in the first centuries AD. Тhе alliаnсе of the king Cotys I and Romans with the Sarmatian tribe Aorses is explained by the necessity to use horsemen, which would have been able to resist the Nomads in numbers and quality of weapons. The allied army had to move one column with wagon train and the vanguard and rearguard it must be the cavalry. Such marching order was considered the military experience in battles with the Sarmatians.;
  Opowieść Tacyta o przebiegu wojny bosforskiej w latach 45–49 n.e. to jedyne pisemne świadectwo o dziejach bosporańskiej armii w pierwszych wiekach naszej ery. Sojusz Kotysa i Rzymian z sarmackim plemieniem Aorsów tłumaczy się koniecznością użycia kawalerii, która mogłaby sprostać innym koczownikom pod względem liczebności i jakości broni. Kolumna marszowa armii sprzymierzonej składała się z kolumny piechoty z taborem oraz jazdy, która poruszała się w przedniej i tylnej straży. Ta praktyka wykształciła się wyniku doświadczeń wojskowych zdobytych w bitwach z Sarmatami.
