  En la primera parte el artículo evoca la relación personal del autor con el Prof. Mariano Artigas. Traza las líneas de convergencia y divergencia con él. En la segunda parte resume las tesis principales del libro La conciencia inexplicada, discute los proyectos de naturalización de la conciencia y las alternativas que ofrecen las filosofías aristotélica y cartesiana para un mejor esclarecimiento del concepto.
