  The aim of this paper is an attempt to reconstruct the recommendations made to parents, especially mothers, in the care of hygiene and health of children and youth. The basis of these findings is the reading of handbooks on health and hygiene, and education of the child and youth, published in Poland in the second half of the 19th and 20th century (1850-1970). It should be emphasized that the content of advice is very rich and diverse. These related issues concern proper hygiene of pregnancy, childbirth, the health of infants and toddlers. It was pointed out how to act in the field of child nutrition, clothing, care for the cleanliness of the body, how to decorate children’s room, recommended outdoor activities, sex education and sexual awareness.;
  Przedmiotem analiz uczyniono problematykę wychowania zdrowotnego i higieny dzieci i młodzieży w świetle poradników z lat 1850-1970. Celem podjętych badań jest próba odtworzenia, systematyki, a przede wszystkim ukazania ewolucji porad i wskazówek ze wskazanego zakresu w ponadstuletnim okresie rozwoju literatury poradnikowej. Podstawą źródłową analizowanej problematyki uczynione zostaną poradniki wychowawcze oraz higieniczne dla rodziców, wychowawców oraz opiekunów dzieci i młodzieży okresu zaborów, II RP oraz PRL. Zamieszczane w tym okresie na stronach poradników informacje i porady obrazują przemiany w postrzeganiu i rozumieniu zasad higieny, troski o zdrowie i propagowania zdrowego stylu życia dzieci i młodzieży, będących konsekwencją zmian na polu nauk medycznych, higienicznych oraz pedagogicznych.
