  The article shows an attempt to characterise the relationship between the assumptions of intercultural education and their implementation in educational policy. It gives examples of historical and social conditions and their influence on the development of the idea of intercultural integration. It also lists important international documents which mark the direction of pedagogical action. The contemporary Polish school is transforming; therefore, educational innovation is required. Appropriate teacher training and the provision of support through the work of intercultural assistants are currently the principal aims of improving the quality of the implementation of interculturalism at school.;
  Artykuł przedstawia próbę scharakteryzowania relacji zachodzących między założeniami edukacji międzykulturowej a ich wdrażaniem w polityce oświatowej. Podano przykłady uwarunkowań historycznych i społecznych oraz pokazano ich wpływ na rozwój idei integracji międzykulturowej. W artykule przywołane zostały kluczowe dokumenty międzynarodowe, które wyznaczają kierunek działań pedagogicznych w zakresie realizowania idei edukacji międzykulturowej. Artykuł przedstawia opisy transformacji, którym ulega polska polityka integracyjne. Podano również przykłady zmian zachodzących bezpośrednio na łamach edukacji.  Dynamika zmian w oświacie powoduje potrzebę wdrażania odpowiednich rozwiązań systemowych.  Wyposażenie nauczycieli w podstawową wiedzę i kompetencji z zakresu międzykulturowości oraz stała praca asystentów międzykulturowych to główne sposoby poprawy jakości rozwijania idei integracji międzykulturowej w wymiarze edukacyjnym.
