  In the First Epistle of John the Greek noun κοινωνία appears four times and describes fellowship with God as well as with brothers. Christians' relational identity is also depicted with phrases: “to be from”, “to be in”, “to remain in”. The communion with God and with other believers are interconnected. The foundations of unity are love and true faith. Thanks to κοινωνία a disciple of Christ walks in the light, has his sins forgiven and has eternal life.;
  W Pierwszym Liście św. Jana czterokrotnie pojawia się grecki termin κοινωνία zarówno w sensie łączności chrześcijanina z Bogiem, jak i bratem. Zwrotami opisującymi tożsamość relacyjną chrześcijanina są także „być z”, „być w”, „trwać w”. Zjednoczenie z Panem i innymi wiernymi są ze sobą wzajemnie powiązane. Podstawą jedności jest miłość i wyznawanie prawdziwej wiary. Dzięki κοινωνία uczeń Chrystusa chodzi w światłości, są mu przebaczone grzechy i ma życie wieczne.
