The article presents history and purposes of collection “Polish Artist’s Book of XX & XXI Century”. Next, the works gathered in the collection were analysed in the formal and functional context in order to see if they can be called books in the meaning of book studies. Various aspects have been examined, including: printing, presence of text, functions and physical properties. The results were collated with theories of esteemed scientists: Karol Głombiowski, Stefan Vrtel-Wierczyński, Ryszard Cybulski, Paul Otlet and Clive Phillpot. As a consequence of these actions, it was established that analysed works should be perceived as representatives of visual arts rather than books or even documents.;
W artykule opisano historię powstania i główne założenia kolekcji „Polska książka artystyczna z przełomu XX i XXI wieku”. Następnie zebrane w zasobie projekty poddano formalnej i funkcjonalnej analizie mającej wykazać, czy według księgoznawstwa mogą one być traktowane jak książki. Badaniu zostały poddane ich rozmaite aspekty, w tym: nakłady, obecność tekstu, fizyczne właściwości oraz funkcje. Uzyskane wyniki skonfrontowano z teoriami uznanych badaczy: Karola Głombiowskiego, Stefana Vrtela-Wierczyńskiego, Ryszarda Cybulskiego, Paula Otleta, a także Clive’a Phillpota. W rezultacie tych działań ustalono, że zgromadzone w kolekcji dzieła powinniśmy postrzegać raczej w kategoriach sztuk wizualnych, a nie książki czy nawet dokumentów.
