  In the 1980s, a research programme on the Chełmno Land Neolithic was launchedat the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Nicolaus Copernicus University.From the very beginning, it was permanently associated with the Archaeological Picture ofPoland project. As a result of the work undertaken, approximately 2,500 archaeological sitesfrom the younger Stone Age were located in the area of the former Toruń Voivodeship, ofwhich approximately 120 were examined by the excavation method. Archaeological sourceshave been obtained from the early phases of the Linear Pottery culture until the end of theCorded Ware culture. This allows the Department of the Younger Stone Age, and within itthe authors of this study, to conduct multifaceted studies on Neolithic communities. Theyfocus on issues related to the mentality of prehistoric communities, Bayesian modellingof radiocarbon markings, the dynamics of settlement of early agricultural communitiesand the conditions of their contemporary manifestation in the geographical space of theChełmno Land, or research on the oldest metallurgy in Poland.Some research issues carried out at the Department of the Younger Stone Age arecloser to classical archaeology, while other projects aim at a slightly different form of itsimplementation, inspired by cultural constructivism and the research of the Poznań schoolof cultural studies. The factor integrating the activities of the Department of the YoungerStone Age is a strong belief in the need to implement the postulate of cognitive pluralism,which is to abstract from the conventional boundaries of disciplines. We assume that theparadigm that will make the postulate of transdisciplinary research come true is culturalconstructivism.;
  W latach 80. ubiegłego wieku w Instytucie Archeologii i Etnografii Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika rozpoczęto realizację programu badań nad neolitem ziemi chełmińskiej. Od samego początku był on trwale związany z projektem Archeologicznego Zdjęcia Polski. W wyniku podjętych prac na obszarze dawnego województwa toruńskiego zlokalizowano około 2500 stanowisk archeologicznych z młodszej epoki kamienia, z których około 120 przebadano metodą wykopaliskową. Pozyskano źródła archeologiczne od wczesnych faz kultury ceramiki wstęgowej rytej aż do schyłku kultury ceramiki sznurowej. Pozwala to na prowadzenie przez Zakład Młodszej Epoki Kamienia, a w jego ramach przez autorów tego opracowania, wieloaspektowych studiów nad społecznościami neolitycznymi. Skupiają się one wokół kwestii związanych z mentalnością społeczności pradziejowych, modelowaniem bayesowskim oznaczeń radiowęglowych, dynamiką osadnictwa społeczności wczesnorolniczych i warunków współczesnego ich manifestowania się w przestrzeni geograficznej ziemi chełmińskiej, czy badań nad najstarszą metalurgią na ziemiach polskich. Niektóre zagadnienia badawcze realizowane w Zakładzie Młodszej Epoki Kamienia są bliższe klasycznej archeologii, inne projekty wychodzą naprzeciw nieco innej formie jej uprawiania, inspirowanej konstruktywizmem kulturowym oraz badaniami poznańskiej szkoły kulturoznawczej. Czynnikiem integrującym działalność Zakładu Młodszej Epoki Kamienia jest silne przekonanie o potrzebie realizacji postulatu pluralizmu poznawczego, który ma abstrahować od konwencjonalnych granic dyscyplin. Zakładamy, że paradygmatem, który pozwoli na urzeczywistnienie postulatu badań transdyscyplinarnych jest konstruktywizm kulturowy.
