On 27−27 March 2014 the Institute of Information Science and Book Studies of the University of Warsaw held a conference that brought together prominent researchers in bibliology, literary studies and history as well as a large group of librarians. The aim of the conference was to exchange ideas and experience in the field of book research. Particular attention was paid to books’ social role in different periods of Polish history – from difficult times of oppression, through challenges of new reality in free Poland to constant changes that occurred in the 20th century. The report summarizes the meeting and briefly outlines papers presented at the conference.;
W dniach 27−27 marca 2014 r. odbyła się w Instytucie Informacji Naukowej i Studiów Bibliologicznych Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego konferencja naukowa, która zgromadziła wybitnych badaczy bibliologów, literaturoznawców i historyków oraz liczne grono bibliotekarzy. Jej celem była wymiana myśli i doświadczeń z zakresu badań nad książką i jej rolą społeczną w trudnym okresie niewoli narodowej, następnie wobec wyzwań nowej rzeczywistości wolnej Polski oraz w okresie nieustających przemian, jakie niósł wiek XX. Artykuł podsumowuje konferencję i zawiera podstawowe informacje na temat wygłoszonych w jego ramach referatów.
