  The article presents the analysis of main tendencies of the vocabulary formation of the western Ukrainian variant of standard Ukrainian in the territory of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially in Galicia. The specificity of the development and formation of the Ukrainian standard language in this region was a multilingual environment which comprised an active interlanguage interaction. These factors contributed to the borrowing of a significant part of the vocabulary from other languages. In addition, artists of that time, who were influenced by the idea of the Slavic languages’ revival, promoted the creation of grammar books and the lexical basis for the Ukrainian standard language through the use of a folk-colloquial variant. Consequently, this resulted in the use of the dialectal layer, including both general Galician words and peculiarly dialectal ones. The lack of lexical units in the colloquial speech was offset by borrowings from Church Slavonic, Russian, Polish and, in part, German according to the word-building models which were typical of Ukrainian;
  Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza głównych tendencji kształtowania się zasobu leksykalnego odmiany języka zachodnioukraińskiego w Galicji —na terenie dawnych AustroWęgier. Na specyfikę rozwoju oraz kształtowanie się ukraińskiego języka literackiego w opisywanym regionie wpłynęła wielojęzyczność środowiska, w którym miała miejsce aktywna interakcja międzyjęzykowa powodująca zapożyczenia znacznej części słownictwa z innych języków. Ówcześni językoznawcy przyczynili się, pod wpływem idei odrodzenia języków słowiańskich, do stworzenia podstaw gramatyczno-leksykalnych ukraińskiego języka literackiego w oparciu o język potoczny. W rezultacie spowodowało to zastosowanie form dialektalnych na płaszczyźnieogólnogalicyjskiej. Jednocześnie brak jednostek leksykalnych w języku potocznym został zrównoważony poprzez wprowadzenie zapożyczeń z języka starosłowiańskiego, rosyjskiego, polskiego oraz częściowo niemieckiego, jak również zastosowanie derywatów typowych dla języka ukraińskiego.
