The paper analyzes, from a rhetorical perspective, the so-called ‘role identity’ of women as speakers active in the public sphere. Based on an Italian linguistic column stemming from the year 1976, the text confronts different role identities of women in the context of public speech: (a) the traditional one, according to which women are not expected to speak in public; (b) the current one (i.e., valid in the Seventies), according to which women active in the public sphere, being more concise, reveal to be better orators than men; (c) two role identities desired for the future: one, according to which women should limit themselves only to short forms of oratory, and an alternative one, according to which women should have access to a full range of rhetorical choices.;
L’articolo analizza, dalla prospettiva retorica, la cosiddetta „identità di ruolo” delle donne come oratrici attive nella sfera pubblica. Basato su una cronaca linguistica italiana dell’anno 1976, il testo mette a confronto varie identità di ruolo delle donne nel contesto della comunicazione pubblica: (a) l’identità tradizionale, secondo la quale le donne dovrebbero essere mute nella sfera pubblica; (b) l’identità ricorrente (quella valida negli anni Settanta), secondo la quale le donne, in quanto più concise, si rivelano oratrici più brave degli uomini; (c) due identità di ruolo desiderate per il futuro: una, secondo la quale le donne dovrebbero autolimitarsi solo alle forme brevi di oratoria, e l’altra, secondo la quale le donne dovrebbero avere accesso al pieno repertorio dei mezzi retorici.;
W pracy przedstawione zostały różne profile kobiet jako mówców obecnych w sferze publicznej. Autorka tekstu prezentuje różne role kobiet w kontekście komunikacji publicznej, wyróżniając: (a) tożsamość tradycyjną, zgodnie z którą kobiety powinny milczeć w sferze publicznej; (b) tożsamość obecną w latach siedemdziesiątych, zgodnie z którą kobiety, jako bardziej zwięzłe, okazują się lepszymi mówcami niż mężczyźni; (c) oraz dwie role oczekiwane na przyszłość: pierwsza, według której kobiety powinny ograniczać się tylko do krótkich form oratoryjnych; druga, zgodnie z którą kobiety powinny mieć dostęp do pełnego repertuaru środków retorycznych.
