Subsequent chapters introduce Putnam’s theory of the meaning, referring it to the term “water” understood by scientists and ordinary users of language, possible readings of the sentence “water is H2O” and a critique of Putnam’s example. The author also considers the validity of the example and how to interpret the sentence “water is H2O”. The paper aims to show how we can accept Putnam’s example despite the solid and accurate criticism. ;
Praca przedstawia analizę zdania „woda to H2O” jako znaczącego przykładu zarówno dla teorii znaczenia Putnama, naukowego realizmu jak i filozofii chemii. Omówiona została sama koncepcja znaczenia i oznaczania, rozumienie terminu „woda” przez laików i chemików, różne sposoby interpretacji zdania „woda to H2O” oraz krytyka przykładu Putnama. Autorka rozważa czy przykład ten jest zasadny, oraz pokazuje, jak mimo mocnej i trafnej krytyki można interpretować zdanie „woda to H2O” w zgodzie z filozofią chemii.
