  How are sporting achievements of persons with disabilities ‘valued’? An analysis of the phenomenon from a sociological perspective

  In this article issues regarding the perception of oneself and one’s sporting career among Polish disabled athletes have been addressed. The main issues discussed include: the commercial and market value of athletes with disabilities as well as their exclusion from economic transactions understood as the ability to ‘sell’ and earn on one’s own image; media marginalisation of sporting events involving persons with disabilities; and the social ‘achievement measurement’ ofdisabled athletes in opposition to the ‘valuation’ of the achievements of healthy, fully proficient athletes, followed by the limited role of the prestige and social recognition which, in connection with their achievements, are suffered by disabled athletes.These issues will be a contribution to the reconstruction of a sense of meaning of the physical activity and sport as specific actions seen from the perspective of sportsmen with disabilities.There are qualitative data used in the research, collected through a technique of an in-depth unstructured interview and observations, conducted among the disabled who play sports. The analysis and interpretation of the empirical material have been based on the principles of the methodology of a grounded theory.;
  W artykule podjęte zostały kwestie odnoszące się do postrzegania siebie i swojej kariery sportowej przez niepełnosprawnych sportowców w Polsce. W tym kontekście główny nacisk położono na następujące zagadnienia: po pierwsze, wartość komercyjną i rynkową sportowców niepełnosprawnych oraz ich wykluczenie z transakcji ekonomicznej, rozumianej jako możliwość „sprzedaży” i zarabiania na własnym wizerunku: po drugie, medialne marginalizowanie wydarzeń sportowych z udziałem osób niepełnosprawnych i po trzecie, społeczną „wycenę” niepełnosprawnych sportowców, a także ograniczoną rolę prestiżu i społecznego uznania, jaką w związku ze swoimi sukcesami odczuwają sportowcy niepełnosprawni.Powyższe zagadnienia stały się przyczynkiem do rekonstrukcji poczucia sensu aktywności fizycznej i uprawiania sportu jako specyficznych działań widzianych z perspektywy osób niepełnosprawnych.W badaniach wykorzystane zostały dane jakościowe zdobyte za pomocą techniki pogłębionego wywiadu swobodnego oraz obserwacji jawnej przeprowadzonych wśród osób niepełnosprawnych uprawiających sport. Analiza i interpretacja materiału badawczego prowadzona jest zgodnie z zasadami metodologii teorii ugruntowanej.
