  The paper attempts to reconstruct the law of Prussia, a nation which disappeared in the 17th century and had its seat in the immediate vicinity of the former Polish state for several centuries. Such an attempt is interesting from the point of view of the process of creating the law of peoples who were at the stage of shaping their social and political structures. Thus, it portrays various directions of civilizational development. The reconstruction of the law, a factor of the intangible culture of a nation which did not become a historical nation, is difficult. Any such efforts are made onerous due to a lack of written sources as the Prussians did not develop their own writing system. Research in this area, which constitutes an example of searching for the laws of nations which are a thing of the past, creates an opportunity to explain numerous phenomena. The phenomena are connected with the processes of creating and functioning of law as an indispensable regulator of social relations. This requires postulating theses concerning the methods of development of the law of Old Prussians as well as the possibility of its reconstruction. Moreover, this will apply to the use of various methodological procedures as well as drawing on the results and research methods of other scientific disciplines: archaeology, ethnology, ethnography, ethnosociology, and linguistics. The aforementioned activities should be carried out besides the exegesis of the sources of knowledge of law in a broad interdisciplinary approach, while taking into account the issuespertaining to the reception of law, the transfer of legal concepts as well as comparative research. All of the above allows one to present the law of Old Prussia in a pan-European context. ;
  Artykuł stanowi próbę rekonstrukcji prawa Prus, narodu, który zniknął w XVII wieku i przez kilka stuleci miał swoją siedzibę w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie dawnego państwa polskiego. Próba taka jest interesująca z perspektywy tworzenia prawa ludów, które znajdowały się na etapie kształtowania swoich struktur społecznych i politycznych, ukazuje bowiem różne kierunki rozwoju cywilizacyjnego. Odbudowa prawa, czynnika niematerialnej kultury narodu, który nie stał się narodem historycznym, jest trudna ze względu na brak źródeł pisanych, gdyż Prusacy nie wypracowali własnego pisma. Badania w tej dziedzinie, stanowiące przykład poszukiwania praw narodów należących do przeszłości, pozwalają na wyjaśnienie wielu zjawisk związanych z procesami tworzenia i funkcjonowania prawa jako niezbędnego regulatora stosunków społecznych. Wymaga to określenia sposobu kształtowania prawa staropruskiego oraz możliwości jego rekonstrukcji. Dotyczy także stosowania różnych procedur metodologicznych oraz czerpania z wyników i metod badawczych innych dyscyplin naukowych: archeologii, etnologii, etnografii, etnozocjologii i językoznawstwa. Działania te, poza egzegezą źródeł wiedzy prawniczej, należy prowadzić w szerokim, interdyscyplinarnym ujęciu, uwzględniając problematykę recepcji prawa, przekazywania pojęć prawnych oraz badań porównawczych, co pozwala na przedstawienie prawa pruskiego w kontekście ogólnoeuropejskim.
