  Research on the stepfamily (reconstructed family, blended family, patchwork family) is well-advanced in foreign historiography. No systematic research on this issue has been published in the Polish literature. A look at the problem of the foster family within the Radziwiłł family is another attempt of the author to shed light on this subject in Polish historiography. In the article, she indicates which of the male members of the Radziwiłłs created a foster family throughout the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries (15 cases) and how many Radziwiłł children lived in such a family or were related to it. She also lists problems stemming from the magnate’s stepfamily, including inheritance and cohabitation of children from previous relationships, and offers examples of conflicts in the stepfamily and, on the other hand, the relatively harmonious functioning of its members.;
  Badania nad rodziną przybraną czy zrekonstruowaną (stepfamily, blended family, patchwork family) są mocno zaawansowane w historiografii zachodnioeuropejskiej. Na gruncie polskiej literatury przedmiotu nie publikowano dotąd wyników systematycznych badań nad tą kwestią. Spojrzenie na problem rodziny przybranej w rodzie Radziwiłłów jest kolejną próbą autorki zaszczepienia tej tematyki na gruncie rodzimej historiografii. W artykule wskazano, którzy z męskich przedstawicieli rodu w okresie XVI–XVIII w. stworzyli rodzinę przybraną (15 przypadków) i jak wiele dzieci Radziwiłłów funkcjonowało w takiej rodzinie lub było z nią związanych. Przedstawiono też katalog problemów wynikających z badania magnackiej rodziny przybranej (m.in. kwestie dziedziczenia, wspólnego lub nie zamieszkiwania dzieci z poprzednich związków itp.) oraz wskazano przykłady: konfliktu w stepfamily i, z drugiej strony, względnie harmonijnego funkcjonowania jej członków.
