  The article presents an analysis of a system of derivatives in the context of adverbs. It presents information on word formation, motivation and the semantics of derivatives.The adverbs represented a spatial opposition (‘upper part’ – ‘lower part’); there are fragments of derivative clusters of the basic words of the opposition: верх, гора (‘upper part’) and низ, діл, під (‘lower part’). The issues of the semantics of the lexeme are studied in the light of the words’ use in live contexts. The semantic structure of these lexemes was modelled and presented in comparative tables.The analysis was carried out on more than 2,000 micro-contexts of the function of the adverbs in dialects of the Ukrainian language (first of all, the south-west dialect). The sources included dialect dictionaries, card indices and texts, regional linguistic atlases, ethnographic and dialectal materials since the 19th c. (Yakiv Holovatsjkyj, Volodymyr Shukhevych, Volodymyr Hnatiuk, Antin Onyshchyk, Ivan Verkhratsjkyj, Ivan Franko and others).;
  У статті запропоновано аналіз семантичних та мотиваційних особливостей прислівників, які репрезентують семантичну опозицію „верх” – „низ”.Мета дослідження – сформувати узагальнену семантичну структуру дериватів відповідно до семантичних субкомплексів базових слів, виявити епідигматичні особливості дериватів. Основну увагу зосереджено на таких основних моментах, як: кореляція семантичної структури базових слів та дериватів-прислівників, семантичні особливості обставинних (простору – географічного та соціального – та часу) та означальних (способу дії, міри та ступеня), а також функції мовця у формуванні семантики аналізованих прислівників.Джерелами дослідження слугували записи українського говіркового мовлення, діалектні словники та картотеки, тексти, етнографічні й діалектні матеріали від ХІХ ст. і дотепер.
