  National/regional innovation strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3 strategies) are integrated economic transformation programs that use the region’s strengths, competitive advantages and development potential. Smart specialisation strategies focus on priority development areas selected and adjusted to regional conditions, thus enabling the achievement of a competitive advantage in a given field. The smart specialisation strategy is based on the technological, scientific and economic potential characteristic of a given region. The article presents theoretical assumptions for the concept of smart specialisation and identifies smart specialisation in Polish regions, including the Wielkopolska region. The aim of the article is to identify the impact of implementing the assumptions of the Europe 2020 Strategy in terms of implementing the concept of smart specialisation as a stimulus for the economic development of the Wielkopolska region.;
  Konkurencyjność regionalna uznawana jest za siłę napędową współczesnych procesów gospodarczych, wymuszającą zmiany i dostosowanie się do warunków gospodarki globalnej. Koncepcja konkurencyjności regionalnej bardzo szybko stała się celem polityki Komisji Europejskiej (KE), która postrzegała poprawę konkurencyjności we wszystkich regionach Europy, szczególnie w opóźnionych, jako niezbędną w dążeniu do „społecznej spójności”. Koncepcja inteligentnej specjalizacji to nowe podejście unijnej polityki wobec regionów, które pojawiło się w dokumencie Europa 2020, wskazującym trzy priorytety: rozwój inteligentny, rozwój zrównoważony oraz rozwój sprzyjający włączeniu społecznemu. Artykuł przedstawia znaczenie inteligentnych specjalizacji w polityce zrównoważonego rozwoju regionów.
