  The article is an attempt to organize and describe the information of strange and unusual events and situations, which Stefan Ranatowicz placed in his Latin-Polish chronicle entitled Casimiriae civitatis, urbi Cracoviensi confrontatae, origo. The author was a 17th-century historiographer and chronicler, born and brought up in Kazimierz near Krakow. The corpus of his work remains in the manuscript and have became a subject of a broader research conducted by the author of the article. The aforementioned chronicle, preserved in the collections of the Jagiellonian Library in Krakow (ms. 3742/III) seems to be the most important of Ranatowicz’s writings. The chronicle contained much historical information about the cities of Kazimierz and Krakow, as well as about Poland in general. It is a valuable source for cultural studies on customs and religious life. Ranatowicz as a chronicler tried to be objective in describing the events, he used several different sources (written as well as oral ones). He did not omit unusual and supernatural events, to which he assigned a certain meaning in the course of history.
