  The question, why Peter proposed to make three tents when Jesus was transfigured and Elijah with Moses appeared to the disciples, has received various answers in the history of the interpretation of this text. Most commentators do not distinguish enough between the Markan narration of the event, concentrated on the formation of Jesus’ disciples, and its stories in the other Gospels. The theophany corrects Peter’s misunderstanding of his own role as disciple. The task of the disciples is not to address a material hospitality to the heavenly figures, but to receive the Son of God and to listen to Him.;
  Na pytanie, dlaczego Piotr zaproponował postawić trzy namioty, gdy Jezus został przemieniony, a Eliasz z Mojżeszem ukazali się uczniom, udzielano różnych odpowiedzi w dziejach interpretacji tego tekstu. Większość komentatorów nie rozróżnia dostatecznie między Markową narracją o wydarzeniu, która koncentruje się na formacji uczniów Jezusa, a opowiadaniami o nim w pozostałych Ewangeliach. Teofania koryguje braki w rozumieniu przez Piotra własnej roli jako ucznia. Zadaniem uczniów nie jest zaoferowanie materialnej gościnności niebiańskim postaciom, lecz przyjęcie Syna Bożego i słuchanie Go.
