  One and a half century after its unifi cation Italy is in crisis. A lot of Italians do not believe that their state functions as a united political organism. The worldwide crisis which began in the financial market of the United States, has painfully affected Italy as well, reviving all the old problems. The biggest danger for the country has resulted from the eff ects of economic slowdown. The Government of Premier Silvio Berlusconi has not been eff ective enough at fighting the crisis and has failed to fulfi ll many of their promises of before the general election. Basically, however, the crisis has not changed the lifestyles of the Italians, who – instead of taking loans – would rather save. Due to this fact the Italian economy presents itself in a fairly good condition against those of the most important member states of the European Union.;
  A un secolo e mezzo dall`Unita d`Italia, il paese vive una profonda crisi. Molti italiani non credono piu nel funzionamento dello Stato unitario. La crisi mondiale, iniziata dai mercati fi nanziari degli Stati Uniti, in Italia ha aggravato tanti vecchi problemi rallentando paurosamente la crescita economica. Il governo guidato da Silvio Berlusconi non ha fatto nulla per contrastare la crisi e non ha mantenuto le promesse fatte prima delle elezioni. La crisi non ha cambiato sostanzialmente lo stile di vita degli italiani che, per quanto possibile, invece che consumare hanno continuato a risparmiare. Proprio per questa ragione la situazione economica italiana e migliore a quella di altri e piu importanti paesi dell`Unione Europea.;
  Przypadająca 17 marca rocznica unifikacji państwa nie była we Włoszech obchodzona zbyt hucznie1. Półtora wieku po zjednoczeniu Italia znajduje się w kryzysie finansowym, boryka z narastającą falą emigracji i z napięciami między sprzecznymi ambicjami poszczególnych regionów. Wielu Włochów nie wierzy, że państwo nadal funkcjonuje jako wspólny organizm polityczny. Brak jedności zagraża jakości życia demokratycznego bardziej niż w którymkolwiek momencie od czasu ery faszystowskiej.
