  The aim of the article is to analyze the semantic relations between the binding and the content of selected scientific books by Maria Janion. It seems necessary in this regard to answer the following questions: how do the covers of the researcher’s volumes reflect their thematic layer? Is there a correlation between them? Is it possible to put forward a thesis about the unity of meaning of the bindings and the content of Janion’s works? Assuming that the first page of the cover is its most representative and important part due to priority contact between the author and the reader, it is worth emphasizing the communication aspect. An interesting cognitive task is the typologization of the covers due to the graphic elements appearing on them and the determination of the communication functions that they perform. It also turned out to be necessary to define the meanings generated by the bindings, i.e. what the messages contain, and to indicate the themes, topoi, motifs to which the covers refer and which appear in the scholar’s books.;
  Celem artykułu jest analiza relacji semantycznych między okładkami a treścią wybranych książek naukowych Marii Janion. W tym kontekście ważne wydają się odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: w jaki sposób okładki woluminów badaczki oddają ich warstwę tematyczną? Czy zachodzi między nimi korelacja? Czy można postawić tezę o jedności znaczeniowej okładek i treści prac Janion? Wychodząc z założenia, że pierwsza strona okładki to jej część najbardziej reprezentatywna i ważna z uwagi na pierwszeństwo kontaktu autorem z czytelnikiem, warto podkreślić aspekt komunikacyjny. Interesującym zadaniem poznawczym jest typologizacja okładek ze względu na pojawiające się na nich elementy graficzne oraz określenie funkcji komunikacyjnych, które realizują. Niezbędne okazało się również określenie znaczeń generowanych przez okładki, czyli tego, jakie zwierają komunikaty, oraz wskazanie tematów, toposów, motywów, do których okładki nawiązują i które pojawiają się w książkach uczonej.
