It is necessary for the academy, for the academic theology to meet the challenge of the modern culture and to define anew their respective role. The biblical interpretation faces this challenge as well. The part of a problem in question is its obsessive preoccupation with method. However as Hans-Georg Gadamer observed, “the hermeneutic phenomenon is basically not a problem of method at all”. Biblical interpretation as hermeneutical discipline should not be concerned with amassing ‘theoretical’ knowledge, rather it involves a sort of practical knowledge and truth that shapes our praxis. So it needs to include into the reading of Scripture the hermeneutics of faith which aims at appropriation of a living Word of God.;
W obliczu zmian zachodzących we współczesnej kulturze zarówno dzisiejsza nauka jak i teologia akademicka muszą na nowo zdefiniować swoją rolę. Jest to wyzwanie stojące także przed interpretacją biblijną, będącą źródłem teologii i istotnym punktem odniesienia dla praktycznego życia we wspólnotach wierzących. Obok hermeneutyki metody powinna ona włączyć w naukową lekturę Biblii także hermeneutykę wiary jako pierwszy i ostatni etap interpretacji, obejmującej rozumienie, wyjaśnienie i przyswojenie.
