  Die katholische Reform des 16. Jahrhunderts in Würzburg retablierte das Wallfahrtswesen innerhalb ihres Kanons der konfessionalistischen Ausdruckformen. Interessanterweise erhoben die kirchlichen Autoritäten aber schon ab ca. 1670 zunehmende Kritik an den Veräußerlichungen des Wallfahrens: unreflektierter Wunderglaube, Müßiggang und fragwürdige Moralität der Pilger etc. Erst die Aufklärung, die ab Mitte der 1750er Jahre in Würzburg Eingang fand, eröffnete den ideologischen Generalangriff auf die Barockfrömmigkeit und die Wallfahrten im Besonderen: 1785 wurden schließlich die am meisten „verdächtigen“ Fernwallfahrten formell verboten. Doch ließen sich in der Praxis nicht sämtliche Wallfahrten unterdrücken. Somit konnte die Elitenfrömmigkeit der Aufklärer die traditionale Devotion nur sehr bedingt verändern.;
  Reforms in the Catholic Church in the 16th century renewed the pilgrimage movement in the spirit of Confessionalism. Interestingly, from about 1670 the church authorities criticised the phenomena surrounding pilgrimages such as thoughtless faith in miracles, vanity and the immoral conduct of pilgrims. It was not until the period of the Enlightenment (which commenced in Würzburg in the mid–18th century) that the ideological criticism of Baroque piety and pilgrimages began. In 1785, it was stated that the most “suspicious” were pilgrimages to remote places. In practice, it was not possible to stop all pilgrimage movements. As a consequence, the religiousness of representatives of the Enlightenment altered the traditional devotion to a limited extent only.Translated by Agnieszka Chabros;
  Pielgrzymki na terenie księstwa biskupiego Würzburg w okresie konfesjonalizmu i oświecenia (około 1600–1803). Uwagi do ambiwalencji form katolickiej pobożności w nowożytności (streszczenie) Reformy w Kościele katolickim w XVI wieku odnowiły ruch pielgrzymkowy w duchu konfesjonalistycznym. Co ciekawe, kościelne autorytety już od około 1670 roku w coraz większym stopniu krytykowały negatywne zjawiska towarzyszące pielgrzymowaniu: bezmyślną wiarę w cuda, próżniactwo oraz wątpliwą moralność pielgrzymów itd. Dopiero oświecenie, które rozpoczęło się w Würzburgu w połowie lat 50-tych XVIII wieku, rozpoczęło ideologiczną, ogólną krytykę pobożności barokowej oraz pielgrzymek w szczególności: w 1785 roku zostały ostatecznie zakazane najbardzie „podejrzane“ pielgrzymki do odległych miejsc. W praktyce nie udało się stłumić wszystkich ruchów pielgrzymkowych, w związku z czym pobożność elit przedstawicieli oświecenia zmieniła tradycyjną dewocyjność jedynie w ograniczonym stopniu.
