  The author analyses Ephesians 5:21–33 and asks about the essence of the marital vocation. The exegesis of Ephesians 5:21–33 leads the author to the conclusion that two fundamental aspects of the marital relationship are highlighted in the text: reciprocity (relationality) and fertility. Marriage is seen as a fruitful community or covenant of love. The woman and the man are given a model for their life in Christ, who in the saving event “loved the Church and gave himself up for her.” Christ’s union with the Church leads to the “begetting” of new children of God. Just as the Church saves herself by giving birth to new members of the new united humanity, so too the woman (the husband’s body, the counterpart of the Church) saves herself by giving birth to children who are the fruit of the profound and mutual union of husband and wife.;
  Autor artykułu analizuje Ef 5,21-33 i zadaje pytanie o istotę powołania małżeńskiego. Egzegeza Ef 5,21-33 prowadzi autora do wniosku, że zostają w tekście podkreślone dwa podstawowe aspekty relacji małżeńskiej: wzajemność i płodność. Małżeństwo jest widziane jako płodne wspólnota czy przymierze miłości. Kobieta i mężczyzna otrzymują model dla swojego życia w Chrystusie, który w wydarzeniu zbawczym: „umiłował Kościół i wydał za niego samego siebie”.  Związek Chrystusa z Kościołem prowadzi do „płodzenia” nowych dzieci Boga. Tak jak Kościół się zbawia przez rodzenie nowych członków nowej zjednoczonej ludzkości, tak samo kobieta (ciało męża, odpowiednik Kościoła) zbawia się przez rodzenie dzieci, które są owocem głębokiego i wzajemnego zjednoczenia męża i żony.
