  The aim of this study is to assess the environmental efficiency of agriculture in Poland at the regional level, specifically at the NUTS 2 level. The significance of such research has grown in response to contemporary challenges faced by agriculture, including increased competition for alternative uses of natural resources, biodiversity conservation, food security, and climate change mitigation. This study employed the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, utilizing a modified BCC model that accounts for undesirable effects. Data on agricultural inputs and outputs for 2022 were sourced from the Local Data Bank, CSO studies, and the National Center for Balancing and Emissions Management. An analysis of the spatial variation in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions revealed that regions with the lowest emissions were primarily those with unfavorable agrarian structures, which were associated with lower production intensity. Conversely, high emissions were observed in regions with high livestock density, particularly the Wielkopolska, Mazowieckie, and Podlaskie voivodeships. The study also assessed both production efficiency (excluding externalities) and environmental efficiency (including GHG emissions from agriculture) at the regional scale. Eight voivodeships – Zachodniopomorskie, Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Śląskie, Łódzkie, Mazowieckie, and Świętokrzyskie – demonstrated the highest production efficiency. The inclusion of the environmental component (i.e., greenhouse gas emissions) did not negatively affect their ranking among the studied voivodeships. For these regions, it is expected that reductions in undesirable outcomes would either lead to a decrease in desired outcomes or necessitate costly technological changes. In contrast, other regions exhibited changes in their rankings based on the environmental efficiency coefficient when compared to their production efficiency rankings. The results highlight the dominant role of production effects in the overall assessment of agricultural efficiency.;
  Celem opracowania jest ocena środowiskowej efektywności rolnictwa w Polsce na poziomie województw. W badaniu zastosowano metodę DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis). Pozwoliło to na przeprowadzenie oceny efektywności produkcyjnej oraz efektywności środowiskowej badanych regionów. W przypadku ośmiu województw od- notowano pełną efektywność produkcyjną, a włączenie do modelu komponentu środowiskowego (emisji gazów cieplarnianych) nie spowodowało pogorszenia miejsca wśród badanych województw. W odniesieniu do pozostałych regionów obserwuje się zmiany pozycji w rankingu dotyczącego wskaźnika efektywności środowiskowej w stosunku do efektywności produkcyjnej. Z badań wynika, że redukcja tylko niechcianych rezultatów jest w przypadku produkcji rolniczej bardzo trudna, natomiast możliwa jest jednoczesna redukcja rezultatów pozytywnych i negatywnych.
