Introduction. Lactation is a natural physiological process, which occurs in the female body. It is applicable to every pregnant woman. It begins at the moment the baby appears in the maternal womb and consists of the production of milk in the breasts, and its later secretion. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to present the principles and advantages of breastfeeding, as well as the promotion and education of mothers in this field. Material and methods. The method used within this study consists of the analysis of literature on the topic of natural feeding. Overview. Mother’s milk not only nourishes, but also protects the baby. It fulfils all the nutritional needs of the child. Breastfeeding is also an intense and intimate relationship between mother and baby. It creates a strong emotional bond, which is of great importance for the child’s development. Conclusion. Lactation is a natural physiological process, which occurs in the female body along with the conception of a child. Mother’s milk is nutritious and fulfils all the nutritional needs of a child. The components contained within mother’s milk protect the infant protect the baby from bacterial and viral infections and prevent food allergies. Every woman expecting a child should be aware, that lactation is influenced by many factors, which is why she should undergo education in the field of breastfeeding.;
Wstęp. Laktacja to naturalny fizjologiczny proces zachodzący w kobiecym organizmie.  Dotyczy każdej kobiety w ciąży. Rozpoczyna się już w momencie pojawienia się dziecka w matczynym łonie i polega na produkcji mleka w piersiach, a następnie na jego wydzielaniu. Cel. Celem pracy było przedstawienie zasad, zalet karmienia piersią oraz promocji i edukacji matek w tym zakresie. Materiał i metody. Metoda zastosowana w pracy to analiza literatury dotyczącej karmienia naturalnego. Przegląd. Mleko matki nie tylko odżywia, lecz także chroni dziecko. Zaspakaja wszystkie potrzeby żywieniowe dziecka. Karmienie piersią jest także intensywną i intymną relacją między matką a dzieckiem. Stwarza silną więź emocjonalną, która ma ogromne znaczenie dla rozwoju dziecka. Wnioski. Laktacja jest naturalnym fizjologicznym zjawiskiem, które zachodzi w organizmie kobiety wraz z poczęciem dziecka. Mleko matki ma pełne właściwości odżywcze i całkowicie pokrywa potrzeby żywieniowe dziecka. Składniki mleka kobiecego chronią niemowlę przed zakażeniami bakteryjnymi i wirusowymi oraz zapobiegają alergiom pokarmowym. Każda kobieta spodziewająca się dziecka, powinna mieć świadomość, że na przebieg laktacji wpływa wiele czynników, dlatego też powinna przejść edukację w zakresie karmienia piersią.
