The paper contains the analysis of the speeches made by the Polish political refugees during the summit of the Assembly of Captive European Nations (ACEN) on the events taking place in Poland in 1956. Both the international character of ACEN and its cooperation with the Free Europe Committee (FEC) need to be taken into the account when analysing the statements made by the Polish deputies; therefore, it is necessary to put the aforementioned statements in the specific historical context which consists of two elements: transnational (regional representation of the captive European nations) and international (the Cold War). ACEN’s response to the repression of protesting workers in Poznan and later their reaction to the Polish October and attitude towards Gomułka are of particular interest. Although during 1956 ACEN focused predominantly on the Hungarian Revolution, the question of economic support for Poland was the first to divide the assembly politically and affect their relationship with FEC.;
Artykuł zawiera analizę wypowiedzi polskich uchodźców politycznych na forum Zgromadzenia Europejskich Narodów Ujarzmionych (ACEN) związanych z wydarzeniami w Polsce w 1956 roku. Zarówno wielonarodowy charakter ACEN, jak i specyficzne uwarunkowania działalności politycznej prowadzonej na obczyźnie w ramach współpracy z amerykańskim Komitetem Wolnej Europy (KWE) sprawiają, że analiza stanowiska Polaków na forum tej organizacji musi być przeprowadzona z uwzględnieniem kontekstu, na który składają się dwa elementy: ponadnarodowy (regionalna reprezentacja ujarzmionych) i międzynarodowy (zimnowojenna konfrontacja). Reakcja ACEN na represje wobec buntujących się robotników w Poznaniu, a następnie formułowana i konfrontowana na forum ACEN reakcja na polski Październik, stosunek do Gomułki, stanowią przedmiot zainteresowania autorki. Choć w dziejach ACEN, rok 1956 to przede wszystkim reakcja i działania związane z powstaniem węgierskim, kontynuowane aż do końca działalności Zgromadzenia, to właśnie sprawa udzielenia popaździernikowej Polsce pomocy gospodarczej stanowiła przedmiot pierwszych poważnych kontrowersji politycznych na forum ACEN, ale także w relacjach z finansującym jego działalność KWE.
