• Description:
  In this article I am describing the process of writing a script, in which the main character speaks more than one language on the example of my film “The New World”. I am also exemplifying the differences in the translation of the dialogue list, which appeared between professional translator, me and my co-writer, as a result of different interpretations of the film. In the last part I am presenting rules of proper subtitle synchronization, which skillful use can be an effective directing tool. Movie subtitles are an integral and visible part of the footage, which is why they can intensify exhibited emotions or completely disrupt their perception. Thus, an interpreter for a film director should always be as important a collaborator as a cinematographer, actor or art designer.;
  W niniejszym artykule opisuję proces powstawania scenariusza noweli „Żanna” z filmu „Nowy świat”, w której tytułowa bohaterka używa trzech języków, tj. polskiego, białoruskiego i rosyjskiego. Następnie analizuję różnice w przekładzie listy dialogowej na język angielski, wynikające z odmiennych interpretacji filmu, które pojawiły się pomiędzy reżyserką, scenarzystką i profesjonalnym tłumaczem. W ostatniej zaś części omawiam zasady rozstawienia i synchronizacji napisów, których umiejętne wykorzystanie może być skutecznym narzędziem reżyserskim. Napisy filmowe stanowią integralną i widoczną część filmu, dzięki czemu mogą pogłębić pokazywane w nim emocje lub całkowicie je zaburzyć i dlatego też tłumacz dla reżysera jest tak samo ważnym współpracownikiem jak operator, aktor czy scenograf.
