  Hydrotherapy was immensely popular in 19th century Europe; new spas and hydrotherapy facilities were established and balneology and a unique spa culture developed. Journalistic texts, both specialist medical and balneological journals, played a huge role in shaping and popularizing modern spa treatment. The article showcases the contribution of the physician Zygmunt Wąsowicz to the promotion of Poland’s spas and public health education. The text explores Wąsowicz’s contribution to Polish balneology as the creator, editor, and promoter of spa treatment.The article combines such pedagogical issues as health education with tasks of raising social awareness about and the promotion of Polish spas. Wąsowicz paid particular attention to the dominant therapeutic and educational function of a health resort and showed the directions of development of this branch of the economy, focusing on the operation of the health resort in Krynica. The article applies the methodologies of historical, pedagogical and press studies.
