The article presents views on the patriotic education of children and young people in the Kingdom of Belgium in the context of complementary educational activities in ethnic schools. Patriotic education beyond teaching Polish language, is for Poles living abroad, one of the most important tasks of facultative (ethnic) school activities shaping Polish cultural identity. A sense of patriotism is shaped not only through the acquisition of knowledge passed on by parents and teachers, but also through active participation in the most important national anniversary celebrations of National Constitution Day (May 3), Polish Flag Day and the Day of Poles and Poles Abroad (May 2) as well as Independence Day (November 11).;
Tematem artykułu jest refleksja na temat wychowania patriotycznego dzieci i młodzieży w Belgii w kontekście uzupełniającej działalności oświatowej w szkołach polonijnych. Wychowanie patriotyczne, obok rozwoju kompetencji językowych, stanowi dla Polaków mieszkających poza granicami kraju jedno z najistotniejszych zadań edukacji polonistycznej kształtującej tożsamość kulturową. Poczucie patriotyzmu kształtuje się nie tylko poprzez zdobywanie wiedzy przekazywanej przez rodziców i nauczycieli, ale również poprzez aktywny udział w rocznicowych obchodach najważniejszych świąt narodowych: Święta Narodowego Trzeciego Maja, Dnia Flagi RP oraz Dnia Polonii i Polaków za Granicą, jak również Święta Niepodległości.
