The article presents the characteristics of the catechumen in the culture of the first centuries of Christianity, based on baptismal (pre-baptismal and mystagogical) catecheses. Relying on the instruction of catechists from the 4th century and the beginning of the 5th century, originating from various backgrounds, the place of the candidates for baptism in the world was shown, their social relations in the context of the specific position they occupied while preparing to receive the sacrament of baptism and thus awaiting the rite of acceptance into the community of the Church.;
Artykuł przedstawia charakterystykę sylwetki katechumena w kulturze pierwszych wieków chrześcijaństwa na podstawie katechez chrzcielnych (przedchrzcielnych i mistagogicznych). Dzięki wykorzystaniu pouczeń katechetów pochodzących z IV w. i pocz. V w. z różnych środowisk ukazano miejsce kandydatów do chrztu w świecie, ich relacje społeczne w kontekście specyficznej pozycji, jaką zajmowali, przygotowując się do przyjęcia sakramentu chrztu, a tym samym oczekując przyjęcia w sposób pełny do wspólnoty Kościoła.
