  Recently, the evaluation of digital libraries has been drawing more and more attention in Polish library and information science community. However, very little research has been done in this area. One of the reasons might be the difficulty in specifying the research subject as well as the appointment of a representative research sample. The article presents a pragmatic approach to the selection procedure of Polish digital libraries for usability evaluation. The idea of Website evaluation was briefly explained and some terminological inconsistencies in Polish digital library environment were presented. Then the selection procedure of digital libraries for the research sample was described in detail. The article explains reasons for encountered difficulties in digital library selection and suggests alternative approaches to this problem.
