  The universality of the mass media in socio-economic life seems obvious. However the process of shaping the present role of the media has undergone many changes. It is not only the journalistic milieu that has changed under the influence of society, but also, and above all, society has yielded to the influence of the surging wave of information. The promotion of certain attitudes, including ethical attitudes, has changed the mode of functioning of many public institutions. Higher education does not remain immune to this influence, but as regards ethics we observe significant departures from the generally desired norm, which in the case of the intellectual elite and the academia as the centre of knowledge is much higher than in the other sectors. The role of the media in promoting ethical attitudes is therefore inestimable in the academic milieu.;
  Powszechność mediów w życiu społeczno-gospodarczym wydaje się oczywista. Jednak proces kształtowania obecnej roli mediów podlegał wielu zmianom. Nie tylko środowisko dziennikarskie zmieniało się pod wpływem społeczeństwa, lecz to przede wszystkim społeczeństwo ulegało wpływom narastającej fali informacji. Promowanie odpowiednich postaw, także etycznych, wpłynęło na zmianę sposobu funkcjonowania wielu instytucji życia publicznego. Szkolnictwo wyższe jest na ten wpływ także podatne, jednak w zakresie etyki obserwuje się istotne odstępstwa od pożądanej powszechnie normy, która w przypadku elity intelektualnej i uczelni jako centrum wiedzy jest znacznie wyższa niż w innych sektorach. Rola mediów w zakresie promowania postaw etycznych w środowisku uczelni wyższych jest zatem nieoceniona.
