The paper discusses Anna Sobecka’s book: Obrazowanie natury w nowożytnym Gdańsku. O kulturze kolekcjonerskiej miasta (Depicting Nature in Early Modern Gdańsk: On the City’s Culture of Collecting), published in 2021. The paper emphasizes the intellectual culture of Gdańsk in the 17th and 18th century, especially the aspect of ‘book culture’ as well as collecting natural exhibits, works of art, and scientific apparatuses by members of the Society of Natural Science and the City Council Library. Using the example of the portrait of Johannes Hevelius by Daniel Schultz, the paper also discusses the issue of the elevation and split of the arts and natural sciences in the Enlightenment.;
Przedmiotem artykułu jest omówienie książki autorstwa Anny Sobeckiej pt.: „Obrazowanie natury w nowożytnym Gdańsku. O kulturze kolekcjonerskiej miasta”, wydanej w 2021 r. W tekście położono nacisk na kulturę intelektualną w Gdańsku XVII i XVIII w., zwłaszcza na kwestie „kultury książki” oraz zbiorów naturaliów, dzieł sztuki i przyrządów naukowych gromadzonych przez członków Towarzystwa Przyrodniczego i Bibliotekę Rady Miasta. Na przykładzie portretu Jana Heweliusza autorstwa Daniela Schultza podjęto też problem nobilitacji i rozdziału sztuk plastycznych oraz nauk przyrodniczych i ścisłych w dobie oświecenia.
