  The article recalls the history of Kazimierz Wierzyński’s friendship with conductor Artur Rodziński, who inspired the poet to write a biography of Chopin, addressed to foreign readers, for the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death, which fell in 1949. Based on archival correspondence, it shows the meanders of Wierzyński’s discussions with Jerzy Giedroyc about publishing excerpts in the Parisian “Kultura”; it poses the question of the real authorship of the translation of the book’s text into English, as the translator seems to have been Ludwik Krzyżanowski and not Norbert Guterman; it proves that the author of the preface to the biography was in fact Wierzyński himself, and not Artur Rubinstein.
