  The article describes the life and military career of Lieutenant Colonel Zdzisław Chrząstowski (1891–1939). He was born in the Kaunas Governorate in a Polish noble family. After graduating high school, he started military service in the Russian army, and then in Polish armed formations formed in Russia. He took part in the famous Battle of Krechowce in 1917. After disarming the 1st Polish Corps, he went to the north of Russia, where new Polish troops were being formed. At the beginning of 1919, he came to France by sea and became a soldier of General Haller’s Army. As part of the 1st Chevaulegers Regiment, he returned to Poland in the spring of 1919 and took part in the Polish–Russian war. For his courage, he was awarded the Virtuti Militari Order of the 5th class. In 1923 he was awarded the title of an officer of the General Staff. In the following years, he worked, among others, in the Command of the Corps District No. IV in Lodz and the General Inspectorate of the Armed Forces. He was also the deputy commander of the 1st Krechowiecki Uhlan Regiment (1928–1931) and the commander of the 4th Zaniemeński Uhlan Regiment (1936–1938). During the Second Polish Republic, he was a respected theoretician of tactical cavalry operations, authoring many articles on this subject. In 1939, he took the position of a staff officer of the “Lodz” Army commanded by General Juliusz Rómml. The army headquarters was located in the former palace of Juliusz Heinzel in Lodz, bombed on September 6 by German planes. One of the victims of the air raid was Lt. Col. Z. Chrząstowski, who died from fragments of one of the bombs.;
  Artykuł opisuje życie i karierę wojskową ppłk. Zdzisława Chrząstowskiego (1891–1939). Urodził się w Guberni Kowieńskiej w polskiej rodzinie szlacheckiej. Po ukończeniu szkoły średniej rozpoczął służbę wojskową w armii rosyjskiej, a następnie w polskich formacjach zbrojnych tworzonych w Rosji. Brał udział w słynnej bitwie pod Krechowcami w 1917 r. Po rozbrojeniu 1 Korpusu Polskiego pojechał na północ Rosji, gdzie formowały się nowe polskie oddziały. Na początku 1919 r. drogą morską przybył do Francji i został żołnierzem Błękitnej Armii gen. Józefa Hallera. W składzie 1 Pułku Szwoleżerów wiosną 1919 r. powrócił do Polski i brał udział w wojnie polsko-rosyjskiej. Za wykazaną odwagę otrzymał Order Virtuti Militari V klasy. W 1923 r. uzyskał tytuł oficera Sztabu Generalnego. W kolejnych latach pracował m.in. w Dowództwie Okręgu Korpusu nr IV w Łodzi i Generalnym Inspektoracie Sił Zbrojnych. Zajmował także stanowisko zastępcy dowódcy 1 Pułku Ułanów Krechowieckich (1928–1931) oraz dowódcy 4 Pułku Ułanów Zaniemeńskich (1936–1938). W II Rzeczypospolitej był cenionym teoretykiem działań taktycznych kawalerii, autorem wielu artykułów o tej tematyce. W 1939 r. objął stanowisko oficera sztabu Armii „Łódź” dowodzonej przez gen. Juliusza Rómmla. Sztab armii ulokowany został w dawnym pałacu Juliusza Heinzla w Łodzi, zbombardowanym 6 września przez niemieckie samoloty. Jedną z ofiar nalotu był ppłk Chrząstowski, który zginął od odłamków jednej z bomb.
