  The article contains an illustration and an attempt at evaluation of development of the water-supply and sewage systems in towns belonging to the urban administrative province of Lodz. Besides a general illustration of the problem a more detailed analysis encompassed those elements of the water supply and sewage system which exert a considerable influence on satisfaction of the population’s needs The performed observation concerned the level and changes in the basic measures referred to the population size and areas of the towns under survey. The analysis revealed substantial differentiation in supply of the towns under study with the above facilities and certain shortcomings in protection of the environment. Against this background, there are briefly outlined ways of improving the water supply and sewage system in this administrative province.;
