Cats

This subject does not have to be brought closer – it moves closer itself, it is soft and fluffy, it meows and sits on warm ovens. There are many many cats in stocks of libraries belonging to the Digital Libraries Federation – some of them are ordinary, moggy ones, some of them are totally imaginary, abstract, fairy-tale ones. These animals do not require description – they just have to be seen. Most graphics with kittens can be found in the Multimedia Library of the NN Theatre – digitized output of the illustrator Andrzej Kot who made a trademark from his surname. The National Digital Library POLONA presents more classic cats: Norwid’s cat, accompanied by other animals, vigilantly watching a bird in a cage. In other libraries we can find whole pleiad of these fluffy creatures: in the National Digital Museum in Warsaw there are cats playing, in Boots or on ex libris; in the Library of Private Collections we have crazy cat musicians, whereas in the Baltic Digital Library there is a  children’s drawing inspired by Witkacy.
