Resources of "Digital Library of the Gdańsk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences" was removed today due to their transfer to "Pomeranian Digital Library".

PSNC becomes the official DART-Europe partner

On January 20, 2010 PSNC became the official partner of the DART-Europe project. The aim of this project is to facilitate in the access and use of European e-theses and dissertations. This aim is realized by the aggregation of the metadata of such works available on-line and by allowing to access and search in the aggregated information via a dedicated portal.

At the moment this portal gives access to about 122 000 of full-text research thesis from 210 universities localized in 16 European countries.

Data from Poland is delivered to the DART-Europe Portal via the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation. In the beginning of January 2010 information about ca 300 e-theses from 15 universities were transferred by this way. All institutions interested in cooperation with DART-Europe via the Federation are asked to contact us!

Quarter of a million of Polish digital objects in the Europeana!

From 11th December 2009 resources of tenths of Polish digital libraries participating in the the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation are available in European Digital Library – Europeana. These resources include over 250 000 digital objects made available by the hundreds of cultural and scientific institutions from different regions of Poland. Among them are treasures of Polish national heritage, as well as interesting regional materials or modern scientific and educational publications. The vast majority of publications is available to all Internet users without any restrictions.

Europeana, one of the flagship initiatives of the European Commission, is a web portal which is a single point of access to the digital representation of cultural and scientific heritage. The portal is available since November 2008. In the official launch day it allowed to reach around 2 millions of digital objects scattered throughout the Europe. In December 2009, after the data ingestion from the Polish digital libraries, the number of objects in the Europeana exceeded five millions, of which ca. 5.5% comes from the Polish digital libraries. According to current development plans, Europeana wants to reach 10 millions of objects in July 2010. The portal performs a crucial role in providing and promoting the cultural heritage of European countries and it is important for Poland to be properly represented in Europeana.

Polish digital content aggregator for Europeana is Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, the operator of the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation and the PIONIER Network operator.

The PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation (PIONIER DLF) integrates network of Polish digital libraries, which have been systematically created since 2002. PIONIER DLF was launched in June 2007 by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center. PIONIER DLF currently gives the possibility to search within descriptions of over 315 000 digital objects. Moreover, it maintains an extensive database about Polish digital libraries. It is also a key element in the digitization coordination in the Polish digital libraries. It is worth mentioning that about 10 000 new objects each month is made available by digital libraries connected to the PIONIER DLF . By PIONIER DLFs connection with Europeana, these objects will be more visible and promoted worldwide.

Resources of Polish digital libraries in the test version of Europeana

From yesterday there is over 250 000 objects from the Polish digital libraries in the test version of Europeana.

The Database of Polish Digital Libraries at the PIONIER DLF

From today on the Database of Polish Digital Libraries (an abbreviation: DPDL) is available at the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation. Its purpose is to collect and share data on digital libraries in Poland - not just those already existing, but also the ones in the process of formation.

The DPDL consists of a series of new features available in the PIONIER DLF. These include:

From today we provide details about the publications of "Public Digital Archive of Agnieszka Osiecka". It is the first so comprehensive digitized personal poetic archive in Poland, which will be available without any limitations to home users and scientific institutions.

Resources from "Polish Internet Library (PBI)"

Since 7th of May 2009 we provide details about the publications from "Polish Internet Library (PBI)".

This data was extracted from publicly available PBI website. Details on the process of connection between PBI and DLF will be soon available in the report titled "How to federate metadata from digital libraries which are not compliant with the OAI-PMH protocol. Case study." The connection was made by the PSNC Digital Libraries Team as a part of tasks related with the EuropeanaLocal project.

200 000 publications in the DLF!

On the 2nd of March, 2009 around 1:30 PM the total number of publications in Polish digital libraries connected to the DLF reached 200 000.

The publication number 200 000 is the Dziennik Polski issue from the 26th of August, 1967 r. published on-line by the Małopolska Digital Library.

As the total number of publications chart shows, the number of digital objects available in the DLF has doubled in the period from December 2007 to March 2009. Congratulations to all Polish digital libraries creators and contributors!

DLF presented at the ECDL 2008 conference

On the September 16th, 2008 the Digital Libraries Federation was presented at the ECDL 2008 conference in Aarhus (Denmark). The presentation was related to the paper titled "Enrichment of European Digital Resources by Federating Regional Digital Libraries in Poland".
